Travel insurance, also known as trip insurance, primary features of coverage:

Trip Cancellation – Travelers not able to travel due to illness or death (of the traveler or a family member), weather, airline strikes, terrorism, bankruptcy, unemployment, jury duty or their home being rendered uninhabitable due to fire/flood etc., will be reimbursed.

Trip Interruption – If your trip is interupted, and cut short, because of illness or death (of the traveler or a family member), weather, airline strikes, terrorism, bankruptcy, uneployment, jury duty or their home being rendered uninhabitable due to fire/flood etc., will also be reimbursed

Medical / Health – Reimburses medical and emergency dental costs. You will be reimbursed if you become ill, or have an accident while travelling and require a doctor's visit, or hospitalization. Pre-Existing conditions are typically waived by most policies if the coverage is purchased within 21 days from the date you make the first trip payment (the deposit).

Emergency Medical Evacuation – Provides critical transportation to the closest, major medical provider / hospital, or home hospital. Additionaly, other family travelling members, if covered, can accompany you home also.

Accidental Death – Monetary benefit and re-patriation.

Air Flight Accident – Covers traveler during airline flight. This is usually a low risk probability and cost feature.

Common Carrier – Covers death or dismemberment while traveling on public transport such as, plane, ferry, train, bus or taxi.

Accidental Death – Covers death or dismemberment at any time on your trip. Usually provides the lowest amount of coverage due to a higher risk.

Travel Delay – Flight delay, resulting in traveller incuring expenses for hotel, food or clothing, will be reimbursed. Also can cover costs associated with catching up to a cruise, or other transportation, should a delay cause the traveler to miss embarkation.

Baggage Loss – Will reimburse travelers for lost, stolen or damaged personal baggage items. This coverage is for your entire trip, not just limited to airline handling. Some policies place limits on the type of items that can be claimed by the traveller.

Rental Car Coverage – This optional coverage, reimburses travelers for damage or loss to a rental vehicle. It is designed to allow the traveler to decline CDW (collision damage waiver) coverage offered by the car rental companies. Liability coverage should still be purchased for your safety. Please note, rental car damage coverage is also often included with a credit card used to pay for a rental car.
